I'm DeeDee Grant.  I am a wife, and a mom of two active young boys.  I work part time as a dental hygienist, but photography is my passion.  I fell into photography seven years ago when I was taking snapshots of my six month old son.  I was using a borrowed SLR Minolta film camera, and was amazed when the prints came back.  Almost all of the shots that I had taken were perfect.  My only previous experience with photography was with point and shoot 35mm cameras.  -Nice for vacation snapshots and birthday parties, but not so much for portraiture!  I immediately thought about the 90 dollars that I had just spent at the department store for really lousy photos of my son, and got a sick feeling in my stomach.  I had gone in for the "$4.95 special", and came out spending much more than I had planned on with a bunch of photos of my baby that made him look like a deer caught in the headlights! 

Not long after that, I made the investment to get my own SLR, and started snapping away like crazy!  I showed friends and family my photos, and got very positive feedback.  Not long after that, friends started to ask me to take their pictures for them.  Then my friends referred their friends to me, and before I knew it, I had a small photography business started! 

Five years ago I made the transition to digital and invested in a Nikon D100 DSLR.  Two years ago I upgraded to the Nikon D200.  This camera is amazing.  I was joking with my Uncle last weekend and when he asked me what it could do, I told him it does everything except make my bed for me in the morining! 

I have a very relaxed, informal style of portrait photography.  My "studio" is usually packed away in a closet in my home.  When I have a shoot, I transform my family room into a studio.  So when you come to my home for a photo shoot, don't expect a stuffy, formal photography studio.  It is exactly the opposite!  My boys are usually hanging around in the other room, and if you have kids coming to have portraits done, my boys usually poke their heads in around the corner to check out what's going on.  This has actually worked very well for me because they usually provoke a natural, genuine smile out of my clients, and I capture a great moment on "film".
